DataYard offers both Hosted Firewall services and Managed Firewall services. If this is a part of your contract, you can call our support line, and a technician will assist you in these changes.

If you have a firewall that is not under a management agreement with us, we may still be able to assist you. The changes would be billable at our current consulting rates.

How do I use IIS Remote Management with Windows Fusion?

Walk-thorough that will assist with IIS remote management.

The Windows Fusion environment supports IIS 8.5 Manager for Remote Administration. With this software, you can connect to your website and perform common administrative tasks, including (but not limited to) the following:

Change default document precedence
Adjust file permissions
Create and implement custom error pages
Easily set and manage redirects
Manage MIME types
View and change ASP settings

The below information will guide you through the IIS 8.5 set-up process. Before you can follow along, you’ll have to first download and install IIS 8.5 Manager for Remote Administration. You can find the download at the following link: http://www.iis.net/download/iismanager. Once downloaded and installed, open the program. You should see something like this:

Now, just click on the small icon of the world with a network cable plugging into it and choose Connect to a Site.

A new window will appear, asking for your site connection details. The server name is the host name of the web server you are connecting to, and will be included with the administrative information provided to you by DataYard. The site name is your domain name that has been configured in our hosting environment (without the www).

Once your information is entered, hit Next. You will then be prompted for your user name and password. The user name should be entered in this format:DATAYARD\site_name

For example: my site name is windowsfusion.donet.com, so my user name would be DATAYARD\windowsfusion.donet.com. Click Next after entering your information.

You will now be prompted to name your connection. You can name this however you wish, but you should stay away from naming it anything not identifiable, such as ‘My Website’.

Now just click Finish, you will have successfully configured IIS 8.5 Manager for Remote Administration, and you should see an interface like the following:

You are now capable of performing many administrative functions that you otherwise wouldn’t have the ability to do without direct server access or a Control Panel. Even then, Control Panel software typically bogs down the server and can cause performance issues, which you won’t experience with IIS.

My service appears to be running slowly today, what can I check?

All Ethernet Express customers are provided a log in to access their usage graphs. If you do not have this information you can contact support and we can reset this information for you.

You can access these graphs at http://cacti.donet.com/ anytime for real-time statistics on your usage now and in the past 24 hours, past week, past month, and past year.

Some recommended ways to check your network performance:

Run a speed test using DataYard’s Speed Test http://speedtest.datayard.us/.

If speeds look normal (closely matching your installed speed), there may be trouble at your application or remote site.

How do I manage DNS for my domain?

Shows you how to add, modify, and delete DNS records for your domain hosted at DataYard.

To manage the DNS for your domain you will need the following:

Your own domain
Username/password for domain management provided to you by DataYard

First, log into the DNS Editor located at https://my.donet.com/tools/dnsed/index.php with your username and password.

You will first see a screen that lists all the domains you have access to manage. Choose the one you wish to change and then click Edit DNS

Once logged in, you will see the following:

Edit Mail Records: These are the MX records associated with your account. Add or change the MX record and then select Add Record
Edit Address Records: Address records are used to connect your domain name with the IP address of your website. Add or change the Address record and then select Add Record
Edit CNAME Records: A CNAME record is used to specify that a domain name is an alias of another domain name. Add or change the CNAME record and then select Add Record.

How can I add additional Disk Space to my VIP instance?

The initial amount of disk space allotted to a new VIP instance is 10GB. Increases are made in 10GB increments, and there is no maximum allowance.

Please be sure to include how much Disk Space you would like to increase to and your company information.

How Can I Add Additional RAM to my VDC Virtual Instance?

How Can I Add Additional RAM to my VIP Instance?

Additional RAM can be added in 1GB increments, with no maximum.

Please note that once we have added the requested additional RAM, you will need to reboot your VIP instance before it is recognized by the system. If you need assistance with this process please contact support.

Connect Email Retention Policy

If you use your DONet e-mail account, you need to be aware of our e-mail archival policy.

Effective March 18, 2002:

DONet will begin enforcing an automatic deletion of old e-mail messages stored on our network. Many of these messages have never been read, or are so old that they are probably no longer useful. DONet is implementing this policy change because we are getting close to having 1,000,000 old or unread messages on our system, which increases our disk storage requirements and decreases the performance of our systems and service.

Messages in your “Inbox” folder will be automatically deleted after 60 days.
Trapped spam will be automatically deleted from the “Spam” folder after 15 days.
Trapped blocked messages will be automatically deleted from the “Blocked” folder after 10 days.
Messages in your “Sent” folders will be automatically deleted after 30 days.
Draft DOMail messages will be automatically deleted from the “Drafts” folder after 30 days.
Deleted DOMail messages will be automatically deleted from the “Trash” folder after 3 days.

This change in policy has its greatest impact on customers that use our DOMail web-based interface as their only method of sending and receiving e-mail from/to their DONet account. Customers using an e-mail program like Outlook or Outlook Express will be unaffected, except for the automatic deletion of trapped spam and blocked messages.

If you use DOMail as your only e-mail tool you can do one of two things to avoid having e-mail you wish to keep automatically deleted:

Create a new folder in DOMail to store important messages permanently. You may wish to call that folder “Saved Messages,” or something to that effect. Move all the messages you wish to permanently keep in DOMail into that folder. Remember, there is 100 megabytes of disk space provided with your account, and every mail message you permanently store uses up some of that space.
Setup Outlook, Outlook Express, or another e-mail program as your primary e-mail tool. Move all the messages you wish to permanently keep on your computer back to your DOMail “Inbox” folder, and then download the e-mail directly into your computer using Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.
