The artist uses wings as a symbol of freedom to rise above the ordinary in all things spiritual, mental, and physical. Several surface treatments, handmade slips and glazes are used to give the piece a distressed or weathered look. The cracks that naturally occur in this process are filled with an epoxy and do not continue through the entirety of the wing. Due to these techniques each
