Type I (1849 1859) In silver, unmarked, measuring 40. 3 mm (w) x 49 mm (h) inclusive of its integral loop, contact marks, bruised, edge nicks, replacement triangular ribbon with hook and eye, fine. Footnote: The Bravery Medal was instituted on July 19, 1789 and was awarded for acts of bravery, initially in two grades, Gold and Silver, with a Bronze grade added in 1914.
